Shelby Township Community Park Groundbreaking Ceremony
Shelby, MI – Shelby Township is excited to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Community Park development. The Community Park, which is located on Buchanan Road, near 72nd, is designed to promote the physical and psychological health of Oceana residents by offering access to a well-maintained area to exercise and enjoy nature. It will be a meeting place for families and organizations to connect.
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 9th, 2022 at the site of the park on Buchanan Road, just west of 72nd Avenue. The ceremony will start at 2:30 pm and will be hosted by the Shelby Township Board, and the Park and Recreation Committee. The event is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.
The park will aid the local economy by increasing the benefits of living in Oceana County. While located in Shelby, the park will be within a short drive from neighboring communities and provide recreational opportunities for all residents in Oceana County. Areas that invest in increasing their residents’ quality of life are known to increase the townships’ attractiveness to future residents and businesses.
From the Park and Recreation Committee, “We believe that Shelby and Oceana County are a fantastic place to live and work, and we hope to invest in our community to showcase our pride in our area by investing in its residents’ quality of life.”
The park will be built in two phases, the first includes building the soccer fields, one softball field, and the restrooms. The second phase will include the additional soccer fields, playscape, another softball field, and the pickleball courts. The park is being built with DNR grant dollars and private donations, however, the project is still short of the funding goal for the completion of phase two. If you’re interested in donating to the park fund, please contact the Shelby Township office.
